Experience Multi-Cultural Australia this Chinese New Year

The year of the tiger is just around the corner and many Australian locations are gearing up to celebrate the Chinese New Year in spectacular fashion. Whether you’re a seasoned Caravaner living on the open road or a family of weekend holiday makers, be sure to check out the sights, sounds and colours of the biggest Chinese cultural event of the year.

The Caravanning lifestyle is a quintessential Australian activity and, just as camaraderie and mateship are characteristics of our cultural heritage, so is acceptance and celebration of cultures throughout the world.
Right around the country, here is Australia’s biggest Chinese New Year celebrations:

Sydney
Sydney will host a number of events including the spectacular Twilight Parade from the Town Hall to Chinatown with music, acrobatics, lanterns, fireworks and 2,700 performers. On the 12 February will be a Launch Celebration at the festival markets in Belmore Park where traditional dances and dragon costume performing amongst much more will take place. More information can be found here.

Melbourne
Celebrations will begin on 13th February evening and run through the next day. In line with Chinese tradition, there will be numerous displays of lions dances punctuated by beating drums and fire-crackers. During the day, the stages will showcase many cultural performances by Melbourne's great multicultural local communities and visiting Performance Arts Group from China. More information can be found here.

Brisbane
Brisbane will welcome the year of the tiger in style with a range of entertainment features in Fortitude Valley between 12th to the 14th of February. Attractions include a special guest ‘face transformation artist’, special Chinatown mall re-launch ceremony, Chinese dragon and lion dances and traditional food and fire crackers. More information can be found here.

If you find yourself unable to travel to any of these destinations check with your local tourism information centre for details on closer events. Remember, if you have the distinct pleasure of visiting a Chinese New Year celebration away from home a Holiday Park will provide the perfect base from which to celebrate Australia’s multicultural heritage.
