CARAVAN ELECTRIC BRAKE CONTROL ਍ഀ SYSTEMS:
TIPS FROM ARROW CARAVANS

਍ഀ

The most effective and efficient type of ਍ഀ brakes today for caravans and camper trailers are electric ਍ഀ brakes. There are many different types and makes of electric ਍ഀ brake systems, but they all operate the same way: power is fed ਍ഀ from the vehicle's stoplights into an electric brake ਍ഀ controller device attached under the dash of the vehicle, then ਍ഀ back to the caravan through the seven-point plug and socket. ਍ഀ Once a brake controller is adjusted correctly the driver will ਍ഀ be able to slow the car and caravan with the same force on the ਍ഀ brake pedal as needed to stop the car by itself.

਍ഀ

Older caravans with over-ride hydraulic or ਍ഀ mechanical brakes can be successfully converted to an electric ਍ഀ system. So how do you find the best electric brake control ਍ഀ system for your caravan? We asked the experts at Arrow ਍ഀ Caravans for some suggestions:

਍ഀ
    ਍ഀ
  • Choose a controller with 'Motion ਍ഀ Sensing'. A pendulum sensor sends a variable ਍ഀ amount of power to the caravan brakes in proportion to the ਍ഀ stopping motion of the motor vehicle, which delivers more ਍ഀ responsive braking in all situations. ਍ഀ
  • If you own a large caravan its best to ਍ഀ choose a controller with Manual Control option. This is a ਍ഀ helpful feature to minimise caravan sway or instability. ਍ഀ
  • Number of axles: one size does not fit ਍ഀ all. Make sure the brake system is suitable for the number ਍ഀ of axles on your caravan. ਍ഀ
  • Professionally install your electric ਍ഀ brake system. Connecting the controller into the wrong ਍ഀ section of the car's electrical circuit can cause expensive ਍ഀ damage to other electrical components.
਍ഀ

For more information on the Electric ਍ഀ Control Brake Systems contact the team at Arrow Caravans. http://www.arrowcaravans.com.au/ ਍ഀ

TELL US WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT FUEL: ਍ഀ THE RESULTS

Here ਍ഀ are some of your suggestions on how to ਍ഀ save fuel when you travel:

਍ഀ
    ਍ഀ
  • Don't overload your van with ਍ഀ unnecessary items. ਍ഀ
  • Consider converting your 4WD to ਍ഀ gas. ਍ഀ
  • Drive at a speed commensurate with ਍ഀ the road i.e slower when climbing, faster when ਍ഀ coasting or slightly downhill; keep engine revs down! ਍ഀ
  • Leave home earlier so there is no ਍ഀ need to hurry. ਍ഀ
  • Ensure majority of items stored in ਍ഀ caravan are in front of the axle. ਍ഀ
  • Keep the load that you carry as low ਍ഀ as possible, i.e. if you require extra water on your ਍ഀ trip, just take water in your caravan's tank and empty ਍ഀ drums. Fill these drums at your last town centre (this ਍ഀ applies to going Outback). ਍ഀ
  • Avoid carrying luggage and gear on ਍ഀ the roof of the car. ਍ഀ
  • Make use of discount vouchers. ਍ഀ
  • Reduce speed. Reducing from 95 to ਍ഀ 85 makes a big difference. ਍ഀ
  • Consider fuel additatives, which ਍ഀ can reduce fuel consumption on vehicles by up to 20%. ਍ഀ
  • Consider a lower van to avoid drag. ਍ഀ ਍ഀ
  • Steady acceleration. ਍ഀ
  • Consider travelling in the morning. ਍ഀ The wind can be stronger of an afternoon. ਍ഀ
  • Talk to other van and motorhome ਍ഀ people about the best servo stations. ਍ഀ
  • Plan to travel to the one place and ਍ഀ set up a base there. Have daily excursions only with ਍ഀ the car. ਍ഀ
  • Try to keep your vehicle in good ਍ഀ order, well tuned, check tyre pressure, check the ਍ഀ caravan wheel bearing, van wheel alignment and the van ਍ഀ brakes are not over adjusted.

COOL ਍ഀ RUNNINGS:
TIPS TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT FRIDGE FROM ਍ഀ CAMEC

਍ഀ

In general terms there are two types of fridges available ਍ഀ for use in caravans and motorhomes, compressor driven fridges ਍ഀ and absorption style fridges.

਍ഀ

A compressor fridge is a 12v/240v version of ਍ഀ your fridge at home, the compressor changes the refrigerant ਍ഀ from a liquid to gas which cools the evaporator plate.

਍ഀ

The main advantages of compressor fridges are:

਍ഀ
    ਍ഀ
  • very efficient on 12v and 240v ਍ഀ
  • excellent cooling performance, even in ਍ഀ extreme outdoor temperatures ਍ഀ
  • tilt resistant to 30 degrees ਍ഀ
  • ideal for solar set ups ਍ഀ
  • requires minimal ventilation ਍ഀ
  • better variable ਍ഀ temperature control, even up to deep freeze ਍ഀ
਍ഀ

The absorption style work by heating ammonia ਍ഀ into liquid which is then mixed with hydrogen to evaporate the ਍ഀ liquid ammonia and draw the heat from the fridge interior. ਍ഀ

਍ഀ

The main advantages of absorption ਍ഀ fridges are:

਍ഀ
    ਍ഀ
  • silent operation ਍ഀ
  • convenience of three energy sources ਍ഀ
  • allows longer stays without the need for ਍ഀ expensive solar alternative. ਍ഀ
  • requires substantial ventilation, which ਍ഀ may require additional fans to assist
਍ഀ
